Chances are, your church is not going to be able to afford Adobe Photoshop or even have someone in the congregation with the time or skills to use it. Whilst you can download similar programs for free, there are a few websites which give you all the tools you need to create graphics for social media, posters and more. Not only are they free (some have extra features at a cost) they’re all easy to use and do a lot of the hard work for you.
Using any of the following websites will certainly have you standing out from the crowd:
Canva lets you design posters, social media headers and so much more. Just choose from a their selection of textures, illustrations, symbols and shapes and then click and drag them into the order you want, add a bit of text and you’re done. The website offers a really good tutorial and further resources are available for a small cost including some very cheap professional looking pre-made designs, ready for you to add the text you want over the top.
It’s so convenient to use Google maps when needed an map image. But because it’s so convenient, everyone is doing it. Stamen maps can find any location on the map and turn it into a variety of stylised versions. My particular favourite is the watercolour version which I think looks really pretty and still gives you enough detail. You can save the map square, use it as is or add text over the top.
Want to make it look like an image is on a computer screen? (For instance, a photo of a computer with your website on the screen) PlaceIt lets you do just that. With a large selection of ‘screens’ to add images to, all you need to to do is choose which one you want to use. It even lets you create video versions too. (Whilst low, web quality versions are free, if you need it for print there is a cost.)
ReciteThis creates nice looking text/quote graphics in no time at all. Simple pick the background design you like from their selection, tell them what text you want to add and the site will do the rest. You can choose to download the design to use at a later date or post it straight to your social media channels, it couldn’t be any easier! (Because this service is free, the ReciteThis logo will be at the bottom of your graphic)
Need a simple but professional looking logo? Look no further than Squarespace Logos. Type in the name of your church and then choose from a variety of shapes and icons, colours and fonts until you’re happy with what you’ve got. A low quality version is yours for free, purchase a high quality version for only $10.
Whilst there is a paid version of this with added features, the options in the free version already give you so much to play with. With BeFunky you can make all sorts of edits to photos. Mess around with the colours, crop it, add filters over the top and more. It’s also incredibly easy to use which makes it a great alternative to expensive or complicated photo editing software.
There are plenty of other design sites but these are certainly my favourite. If you have any questions, let me know in the comments below.
